Glenalvon is opening at 12 today, closing at 2 while the Fisher's Ghost Parade is on, then opening again at 4pm.

Fisher’s Ghost parade returns this Saturday 31st and Glenalvon will be open!Starting at 12pm to 2pm and then closing so our volunteers can enjoy the parade. Reopen at 4pm through to 6pm.So before or after the festivities in Queen Street it is a short walk up Lithgow Street to Glenalvon House.There will be games for the children in the garden, including: Hopscotch, hula hoops, quoits, skipping ropes, colouring table.Also have your photo taken in an historic themed photo-board.
It was a full house in the cottage at Glenalvon on Saturday 24th October, for the launch of the latest edition of Grist Mills. Titled “Out and About; The Police Station in Campbelltown.” Edited by Julie Crowley, it features interviews, memories and stories of four local Police Officers and their families, all names many residents will remember.The cover story is from an interview with Pete Barrett, and there are memories from Virginia and Cleone (the Little twins), Dusty Miller and the late Bob Gollan. A video link with Peter Barrett was watched by relatives, members and friends as Peter was unable to join us. The twins Virginia Bult and Cleone McAllister live in Deniliquin so were unable to travel.The journal is available through the Society website or from Glenalvon on open days. You can also order by emailing se*******@******rg.au It is $10 per copy plus $4 postage.
Many thanks to Daryl Hadkins for converting over 40 DVDs, CDs, VHS, cassettes etc and storing them on a USB, then they are stored on our Society hard drive. A huge job. If anyone else would like to do some it would certainly help.

Flashback Friday:Roadworks at the intersection of Moore and Broughton Streets in 1980. Note the absence of traffic lights. The intersection was voted in the top 10 worst intersections in Sydney that year. Glenalvon open morning.Sunday 4th October from 10am to 1pm at 8 Lithgow Street, Campbelltown.So much to see, not only the items on display in the house, but also the original cottage built in 1831, the Alex Goodsell Rural Exhibition with James Ruse’s original headstone and the spring time gardens.Devonshire Teas return on Sunday 18th.
Flashback Friday: We were initially surprised seeing this road sign at the corner of Queen Street and Camden Road declaring “31” to Wollongong.But of course, this was the seventies and the “31” to Wollongong and “34” to Sydney signified miles not kilometres. There’s no definitive date for this Steve Roach photo but kilometres were officially adopted in July 1974.
